What is AI roleplay chat?
It is a back-and-forth fictional scene. You decide what your character says and does. The AI responds as a character, narrator or world, and the story moves with your choices.
Give the AI a role
Describe its character, personality and goal. “Play an old detective who doubts my account” gives it direction.
Set the world and tone
Add the place, stakes and writing style: cozy fantasy, tense mystery, cinematic sci-fi or gentle romance.
Keep your choices yours
Tell the AI not to write dialogue, actions or feelings for your character. Change the instructions during the chat if needed.
Example opening: “We are in a rain-soaked station at midnight. You are the conductor who knows why the last train disappeared. I play a traveler holding the wrong ticket. Reply with short, atmospheric dialogue and actions. Do not speak or decide for my character. Begin when you notice the ticket.”
After the first turn, reply as your character, or say “slow down,” “make the setting darker,” or “keep responses under two paragraphs.” A longer story may eventually outrun the model's available context, so repeat important facts when needed.

Chat history is stored in your browser, not in a PLAI.chat server-side chat archive. Messages still pass through PLAI.chat and the model provider to generate replies. Browser history can be lost when you clear site data or change devices; long stories can exceed model context limits.
